The Group

Here they are. The new pictures are hung along with the one that was already there. Left to right: Keiko by Jim Wurth, Mystery in a Corner by Gay Ann Rogers, Suzy Q by Ro Pace. They are all in similar colors and go well together. And they all go well with my bedspread and 2 cats, see below.

Suzy Q and Keiko, Framed

Suzy Q (below on the right) & Keiko are now framed and waiting to be hung over the bed. I would have gotten that done, but the wire is in the wrong place on one & I can't unscrew the screw to fix it! Have to wait till DH can do it! Anyway, they turned out pretty nice. We decided to just leave some canvas showing around Suzy Q instead of a mat and used just a simple metal frame. Keiko looks nice with the dark green mat and the frame has a bit of texture. Once they are hung, I'll try to get a pic of the grouping.

Suzy Q Finished

Hooray! Suzy Q is finished. The pic was taken without flash, so the sparkle doesn't detract, but it also doesn't show up much. There is quite a lot of metallic, trust me! Refer to previous progress photos and I think you can tell the difference! I filled in the outer green border & the small inner brown border so there is no "break" at their centers. And I backstitched around the brown square motifs with brown silk instead of metallic, then added cross stitching (over 2) around & between them. I think this works to reduce the amount of open canvas without making its own statement! On this piece I didn't care for the open canvas. I think because my threads are so dark. If the canvas had been a darker color, the open canvas may have been fine. At any rate, it is finished. Suzy Q is a fun piece with lots of unusual stitch motifs to challenge just about any level of stitcher.

Suzy Q Progress Report #4

SuzyQ is nearly done! I finished the outer border yesterday and put in the diagonal strip, Neon Rays couched with #4 Kreinik. I have started outlining each area with back stitches in #4 Kreinik. Once that is done, the piece will be finished according to Ro's instructions. But I'm thinking that I might want to fill in around the large brown stitch patterns, maybe with cross stitch? Comments anyone?

Suzy Q Progress Report #3

I finally finished another band on Ro Pace's Suzy Q. This band includes 4 different stitch patterns. They all require careful counting! I used a dark brown silk, an overdyed floss, a light brown wool and Kreinik metallic. The next band should go faster and then there is just a filler stitch for the diagonals and it's done! Unless I decide to fill in more areas. Oh, and the different areas are supposed to be outlined with backstitches, but I haven't decided if I'm going to do that or not.

The first border/band is completed on Suzy Q. It was not difficult, just took awhile! I like the way the brown border brings out the greens. The next border/band has several different large stitches, so may take longer.

I have been working on another Ro Pace design - Suzy Q. Ro will be teaching this piece at the ANG Seminar in Columbus next year. It is a little smaller and easier than the other Ro Pace projects I have done, but very pretty and fun nonetheless! The canvas is ecru glitter. As usual, I have changed all the colors. Ro's are purples & blues. Mine is a soft green (yes, green! not aqua!) and brown. I just finished the center sections last night. There are still 2 bands around it and some filling work to be done. I think it is coming along nicely.
